Can Foreigners Buy Property in Mérida?

Yes — foreigners can legally buy property in Mérida, Mexico, but the ownership structure is important.

Because Mérida is roughly within 50 km of the Gulf coast, many properties in and around the city are considered inside Mexico’s restricted zone.

This means foreign buyers usually cannot hold direct title in their personal name and will typically need to purchase through a fideicomiso, also known as a bank trust.
